Pasta Is Famous In Italy
After pasta reached the Mediterranean area, the production system was further developed and durum wheat, with its long shelf life and high gluten content, has become the perfect wheat for pasta. Since durum wheat pasta is dried, it can be stored almost indefinitely, making it a very advantageous food.
Over time, its cheapness, shelf life and flexibility have made pasta a permanent part of Italian culture. Thanks to the fresh vegetables and herbs that grow in the mild Mediterranean climate, Italians have managed to develop many delicious sauces. Tomato-based sauces are still among the most famous today.
The origin of the word pasta, which Italians call “pastry”, is primarily based on the term macaroni. This word has been used to refer to all types of pasta since the 18th century. In fact, the fact that former U.S. President Thomas Jefferson ate macaroni in Paris in the 1780s and lovingly carried it in a few boxes on his way back to America greatly increased the popularity of pasta in the United States. It is handed down that when Jefferson completed these boxes, he brought pasta from Naples.
